Shauri Moyo Sportiff maintained their winning prowess over their arch rivals, Shauri Moyo Blue Stars, when they trounced them 2-1 in their weekend Sportpesa sponsored Nairobi Super 8 league match at City Stadium.
Despite having been labelled underdogs, Sportiff left many tongue-tied after edging out the once mighty Blue Stars in a thrilling Kamukunji derby that drew a huge crowd. Sportiff were quick to settle in the highly physical match and did not waste their chances as they sent several threats to their opponent’s goal.
Their efforts would eventually pay off in the 16th minute when speedy forward, Freddy Eninga, brought a cross from the left wing to Abdi Hassan who superbly rose high to head in the first goal. Awakened from their sleep, Blue Stars tried their best to level the playing field but all their moves were heavily thwarted by the wellestablished Sportiff backline which stood firm until the half-time whistle.
Upon resuming, Blue Stars found themselves on the receiving end yet again when the goal poacher, Fred Eninga, was left unmarked inside the danger zone. He did not waste the chance but fired the ball straight past the helpless goalkeeper to make it 2-0. With ten minutes before the final whistle, Idriss Gerrard scored a consolation goal for Blue Stars.
The win saw Sportiff remain stagnated at the 8th position with 24 points while Blue Stars who have not won in their past ten matches, dropped 3 places to the 11th position on the 16-team table.
