The New Year 2019, has started with good tidings for Maringobased Cinema FC who braved the hot sunny weather to lift the SportPesa sponsored Kothbiro Soccer tournament at a fully packed Ziwani Umeme grounds.
Cinema FC edged out welldrilled Githurai United with a solitary goal to lift the 40th edition and a whooping Sh500, 000 from both the sponsor and Nairobi City County Governor, Mike Sonko. The goal that almost brought the roof down was scored by Steve Okuku who pounced on the rebound to smash home an all-important goal in the 19th minute. Githurai goalkeeper Boniface Maundu had defl ected the ball back into play.
Champions Cinema FC pocketed Sh300, 000 in prize money while Governor Sonko topped up the fi gure with a personal donation of Sh200, 000. The 2nd placed Githurai United walked home with Sh100, 000 and another similar amount from Governor Sonko.
