There was joy and jubilation at Kibera School for Girls (KSG) at Gatwekera Kibera when 23 students who sat their Kenya Certifi cate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations in 2018 graduated in a colorful ceremony staged at KSG Hall.
The 23 students posted stellar performance at the KCPE results getting 8 straight As, 11Bs and 4Cs. The 13-year old Gloria Royal led the pack of her class scoring 431 marks. Speaking during the ceremony, SHOFCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Kennedy Odede, lauded the girls for their great achievement after spending 9 years at KSG. “Today we celebrate these girls for completing their Primary education,” Odede said.
Odede urged the girls to work hard in their high school education so as to realize their dreams. “Work hard and never feel inferior. Be proud of yourself. You have come from far and you have a bright future. I believe in you. I see a future in you and I know you will make the world a better place,” Odede said amid cheers.
“Be happy, have fun and dance. You are a strong woman. You can do it all,” said Odede. Odede thanked all the guest for supporting SHOFCO and the girl education in particular. “I welcome my American mother whom I knew since I was 10 years old. She bought me my fi rst pair of shoes. She is an incredible woman,” Odede revealed.
Meanwhile, Odede expressed his happiness to all stakeholders for making it happen. “We could not be here without your support. Thank you teachers, mentors, community and supporters,” he pointed out. Speaking at the same event, SHOFCO Co-founder, Jessica Odede, encouraged the girls to forge ahead and utilize the privileged they have been given. “With great privilege comes great responsibility.
You have been privileged with quality leadership education. It is therefore your responsibility to be the best you can be and make a di erence in someone’s life,” Mrs. Odede said. The graduating students received their Diplomas amid cheers from Dr. Kennedy Odede and Jessica Odede, guest, teachers, sta as well as parents.
The students were happy to see their dreams come true after successfully completing their Primary education. “If you believe that you can do it, then you can. We believed and we did it,” said Mollet, the 2018 KSG Head Girl. Teachers expressed their excitement to witness the students graduate after their stellar performance in their KCPE. They were happy that the graduating class of 2018 had made them proud and inspired younger KSG students.
