The 15th January, 2019 horrendous terrorist attack on DusitD2 Hotel at 14 Riverside Drive in Westlands Nairobi, shocked Kenyans and brought anguish to many families and friends across the country.

At least 21 people perished and dozens injured during the evening attack by Al-Shabaab linked extremists who stormed the hotel and shot people indiscriminately.

An Africa uprising? Yes, it is possible

Shockingly, a Kenyan named Ali Salim Gichunge alias Farouk who lived with a woman at Muchatha Ruaka in Kiambu County was the mastermind of the deadly attack. Security forces acted quickly to rescue people who were trapped at the upscale complex. The elite Recce squad moved with speed to neutralize the terrorists.

Several emergency agencies such as Red Cross and various hospitals responded fast to save lives. A similar attack happened in 21st September, 2013 at Westgate Mall in Westlands Nairobi where at least 70 people were killed and 200 wounded.

However, the worst attack occurred in Garissa University in 2nd April, 2015 where at least 148 students were butchered by heavily armed terrorists, injuring 79 more. The fi ght against terrorism belongs to all of us.

We should enhance our unity and resolve to fi ght against any terrorism threat that wants to bring bloodshed to our lovely country.
